Three day weekend
10:05 a.m. - 2003-01-14

Tuesday, but it feels like Monday.

I didn't post anything this weekend because I haven't had access to a computer. It's so strange having two homes...if you need something you can rest assured that it's at the other one, and it's certainly not going to do you a damn bit of good 50 miles away. (Sigh) But we're making progress on our real home. The new kitchen floor is supposed to get installed this week (if the fi will get off his ass and DO it), and we got a new, big, beautiful front door that's going to be put in this weekend. (Keep your fingers crossed.)

So...what did my weekend consist of? Lots of stuff...some was pretty shitty, but some was most excellent. Like the fact that I've decided to become a teacher, and I can start this spring. I just have to take a test and attend some night classes (like, two years worth) to become certified. But I get to work while I'm taking the classes, and get paid what a regular teacher makes. And it pays MUCH more than my current job does, and I'll have lots of holidays and a big, long summer vacation. And I get to be beneficial to society by shaping young minds. (I'm psyching myself up because I NEVER thought I'd be a teacher, much less one in that tiny little town, but hey--you gotta do what ya gotta do. And I think I'll be good at it.) So I'm pretty excited about that.

We went down there Friday night, and Rose came, and Jasmine (pseudonym), and we got rather drunk on tequila. "Hookers" Rose called them--you take a shot of tequila, then follow up immediately with a shot of pickle juice. Sounds disgusting, I know, but it kills the tequila taste. (I gag if I even SMELL tequila, so I just hold my breath through the entire thing and it works quite well...not that you care.)

Saturday we rented two movies and I cooked dinner. Jasmine came over again and we watched The Good Girl and drank a little and went to bed pretty early. Then Sunday I got really wasted and hit my head on a wall and it's STILL sore. (I'm such a moron.) So, needless to say, none of that nonsense will be happening again in the near future. I had my wild weekend--I don't have them often, but when I do...watch out. I do some wacky shit and usually don't remember it the next day, so it's better if I don't do it at all. (That's what I've decided.)

I called my boss on Sunday (YES, when I was sober) and told him that I needed Monday off to check on stuff for the teaching position. He was kind of a dick about it, but he consented. (I mean, what else is he going to do...fire me?) So Monday morning I got up, went to the School Board office, talked to a few folks, found out how easy it will be for me to start teaching, found out what I need to do, etc. They really want me...they had positions available immediately, but I explained that I couldn't take them because I'm kind of obligated to my current boss until he finds a replacement. They were disappointed, but they'll get over it. They're being incredibly helpful. I'm not being conceited. Evidently it's very beneficial to have a good college education when it comes to teaching. SOO...I've got some phone calls to make today. And I think I have to drive back down there tonight because I left some of my stuff there--makeup and wallet, to be exact. Yuck. I hate that drive.

So, lovely little Diarylanders, I'll go now. Write in my guestbook--that's what it's there for. (Oh yeah...and if anyone can give me a little help on getting my older entries page to work, I'd REALLY appreciate it.)

I am: so very many things. A mother, a wife, a dreamer, a lover of animals and babies, a friend. I've been called a bitch, but if that's what you call someone who stands up for what they believe in and refuses to settle, then I guess the title fits.

loves: my family, horses, a full night's sleep, puppy breath, my daughter's laughter, thunderstorms, bubble baths, makeup, soft sheets, David Sedaris and Augusten Burroughs, wine, massages, the written word, and sour straws.

dislikes: closed minds, depression, pimples, extreme heat, math, panic attacks, black licorice, doing laundry, white chocolate, gin, Bush.
